Boma Flavors of Africa Breakfast Review:

Writer's picture: Christine GraceChristine Grace

Boma Flavors of Africa is a table service restaurant that serves all-you-care-to-enjoy African-inspired dishes– and a few American classics – on the first floor of Jambo House at AKL. Meant to resemble an African marketplace, Boma's ambiance is perfection. Animal Kingdom lodge is known for its gorgeous theming and African inspired art and cuisine. The resort's restaurants are no different. Warm accents, thatched roofing, and hanging tapestries really set the scene and make your African adventure come to life.

Boma breakfast is open daily from 7:30am to 11am. Surprisingly, Boma breakfast is one of the more reasonably priced breakfasts on property, costing $29 per adult and $17 per child. While they do accept walk-ups, we highly recommend making an advanced dining reservation. Boma is known for having one of the best breakfasts on WDW property, and we were eager to put that reputation to the test.

Boma Flavors of Africa offers a variety of foods meant to please everyone in the family. Adventurous eaters can indulge in the African inspired cuisine, while even the pickiest of guests can find comfort in the traditional breakfast offerings. Along with the delicious foods, Boma also has a variety of beverages and cocktails. Disney's famous POG (pineapple, orange, and guava) juice and a delectable spiked cold brew topped with a zebra dome.

When we arrived for breakfast on the last day of our weekend trip, we were instantly greeted and brought to our table. Our glasses filled with POG juice, we left to see all that Boma breakfast has to offer.

The first thing we noticed is that the first food station is for the African- inspired dishes. Turkey Bobotie and an African tomato stew were our favorites. They also had carved ham and plantains.

I actually went for seconds of the African stew. It was THAT good. If you enjoy tomatoes and a little bit of a kick, this is a great dish to try.

The other stations consisted of a wide variety of breakfast options, including fruits, vegetables, omelets, deviled eggs, and all the carbs you care to enjoy. Lo and behold, Mickey waffles aren't the only waffle option at Boma. You can also get a Simba waffle to add to the mix!

The french toast bread pudding is another popular treat at Boma breakfast that has truly made a name for itself. As we were going for seconds, another guest actually raved about the bread pudding and said he was on his THIRD plate. No kidding. We knew we were going to have to try it for ourselves.

The bread pudding was served with a vanilla icing and was definitely worth making a separate trip for to fill an entire plate to share (or not!) It is warm, sweet, and melts in your mouth.

While Zebra domes are another popular option, they aren't an offering at Boma breakfast unless you order one of the spiked cold brews. Since we were staying at Animal Kingdom lodge, we were able to try the zebra domes by ordering from Mara earlier on during our trip. This dessert is a thin layer of white cake with a coating of white chocolate ganache and then a drizzle of dark chocolate ganache. They were uniquely delicious. The secret? The Amarula Liquor.

While Dan is a big breakfast aficionado, I personally am not a fan of most breakfast items. I was the child growing up who would prefer to eat chicken tenders as a breakfast option, and that may or may not still be my personal preference compared to most traditional breakfast foods. I was a bit reluctant on going to Boma for breakfast, but their selection truly does cater to everyone. I really enjoyed my selections and felt we both got our moneys worth. Although it has been several weeks since our meal, I still think of the tomato stew and bread pudding often. Boma continues to impress for breakfast. Whether you're looking for more traditional breakfast options or something a bit more culturally unique, you'll find Boma really does have it all.
