Palo's steakhouse is one of the two adult exclusive dining options aboard the Disney Wish. Located on Deck 12, Palo's steakhouse is an evolution of the Palo's dining experience that DCL guests have come to know and love. My husband and I were lucky to get a reservation for Palo's steakhouse on our wedding night, compliments of Disney Fairytale Weddings. We had heard great things about Palo, and were excited to experience the cuisine for ourselves.
Guests arriving on deck 12 are able to find their way to the adult-exclusive dining areas by following the signs through a gorgeously themed corridor inspired by Beauty and the Beast. The Rose lounge is located at the entrance to Palo and Enchante. The Rose is the perfect setting for a pre-dinner aperitif or after-dinner cocktail.
The transition from the lounge to the steakhouse is seamless. As soon as you walk through the Rose and spot the entrance to Palo, you are greeted by a warm palette of dark wood, shimmering metals, and clock-like details.
The velvet red booths located towards the entrance of the venue work as the perfect transition from the Rose to Palo. As you walk further into the restaurant, you notice subtle changes. The hardwood floors become red carpeting with gold accents. The tables are spread throughout the majority of the restaurant, each with a gorgeous ocean view. Several intimate booths are located along the inside wall. Subtle nods towards Cogsworth can be seen throughout the restaurant and if you look closely, you can find several hidden mickeys.
For those of you who have not had the chance to experience Palo's yet, keep in mind that Palo's steakhouse is considered adult-exclusive fine dining. All guests must be over the age of 18 and adhere to the dress code that they have in place:
For men, dress pants/slacks and collared shirt is recommended. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). For women, a dress, pants or skirt/blouse is recommended. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes).
We personally believe the dress code was a great excuse for adults to have fun and get dressed up. It also added to the elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. Because it was our wedding night, we chose to wear our wedding attire to dinner.
Whether you are looking for an adults night out away from the kids or a romantic dinner for two, Palo has you covered. Although this adult dining experience is a familiar brand within disney cruise, Palo's steakhouse does a great job of making a name for itself.
Guests are able to choose from a variety of italian dishes and fine steaks from a pre-fixe or a la carte menu. Pre-fixe costs $45 per person for four courses- antipasta (appetizer), insalata (salad), il secondo (entrée), and dolce (dessert). If you wish to include wine, the upcharge is $70 per person.
My husband and I chose to go with the a la carte menu and we were happy we did!The a la carte menu has a wider selection and allows you to be more flexible. Even though we went over the $45 per person that was covered, it was only by an additional $10 and the meal was well worth it.
Upon arriving for our 6:45pm reservation, we were greeted and escorted to our table almost immediately. We were seated at one of the intimate booths in the main dining room. Even with my dress being bustled, it took some maneuvering to get seated. Luckily, our server, Daniel, was able to move the table so that i could be seated. I couldn't help but be reminded of Queen Clarisse and her rules on etiquette: one must never slide into one's seat. The restaurant manager appeared as i was being seated to help Daniel push the table back in. We were impressed with how attentive everyone on staff was.
Upon being seated at one of the intimate booths, we quickly noticed how different the acoustics were from inside. It was not difficult to hear each other, or our waiter, regardless of the noises going on around us. We highly recommend one of the intimate booths for a romantic dinner.
Daniel welcomed us before going into the breakdown of the menu For anyone who has dined with Palo on other dcl ships, a look at the menu is all it takes to realize they're in for something new. Palo steakhouse offers many different steak options, from select cuts to wagyu, but they offer a wide variety of cuisine that anyone in your party could enjoy. We recommend listening to your servers recommendations and consider trying something new.
The meal began with bread service. Although we have not had the chance to dine Palo on other dcl ships, upon talking to our server, we learned this was something familiar from the other restaurants. The basket of bread is served with a variety of options to choose from. The bread service was decent, but nothing truly memorable compared to the rest of our meal.
Before the first course, Daniel brought out an amuse bouché as a starter. The amuse-bouché was a Parmesan-encrusted sweet potato gnoochi and mushroom sauce. I personally could have eaten an entire meal of this if I had been given the chance. It was heavenly and left us both wanting more. It was very difficult to resist filling up on each dish that was brought out, but its worth noting that Palo has a strict policy and does not allow guests to take leftovers.
We ordered a crisp romaine hearts salad as a starter, which is adorned with Caesar dressing, toasted ciabatta croutons, quail eggs, and gorgonzola. I was intrigued by the addition of quail eggs. The salad looked gorgeous and was a great start to my meal. The ingredients were simple, but tasted fresh and paired well together. The quail eggs were a surprisingly good addition.
For entrees, I had ordered the pappardelle with grilled Lobster, leeks, salmon
caviar and truffle oil in a tarragon cream sauce. The tarragon cream sauce was a perfect coat over the al dente pappardelle. It was very filling and I found I couldn't finish the entire thing. I was trying my best to save room for the famous soufflé! The lobster and caviar paired well with the tarragon cream sauce. It was the best pasta dish I have experienced thus far and I was only disappointed that I couldn't take it for a midnight snack later.
Dan ordered the 6oz snake river black wagyu tenderloin. Starting our marriage off right, he saved me a bite and it was deliciously tender. Dan was impressed with how the steak melted in his mouth. If we ate at the steakhouse version of Palo's again, it would be at the top of our list.
Dan also ordered the mac and cheese. I often refer to mac and cheese as a "Dan favorite", as he cant go without ordering it at least once at a new restaurant. It was a decent dish, but was definitely not the highlight of the meal. We personally wouldn't order it again.
For dessert, we couldn't go without trying Palo's famous chocolate soufflé. Dan agreed it was decadent, although he is not normally a fan of chocolate. We highly recommend letting your server prep the soufflé by pouring the vanilla and chocolate for the table prior to digging in.
Overall, Palo's steakhouse was a great experience. The service, food, and atmosphere are all exceptional. Palo's staff are all attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We highly recommend Daniel as a server. His recommendations were on par with my husbands expectations and he went above and beyond to make it a memorable evening for us. In between each course, our table was completely cleared and new utensils were brought out with each new course. The food was fairly priced and there was not a single selection we had that we wouldn't order again. Our only complaint was that we couldn't bring our leftovers back with us.
